Edel Golf™ is the worldwide leader in putter fitting technologies, offering innovatively designed and custom-fit putters to golfers of all abilities. Established nearly 14 years ago, David Edel’s putter designs have become synonymous with players seeking a custom fit with a laser focus on aim and proper speed. Edel putters have found their way into the bags of more than 125 players on the professional tours worldwide, and are now available to amateurs at authorized clubfitters around the world.
Edel Golf is not just about designing and milling the best feeling, best performing high-end putters in the world, but it is a process of fitting each golfer one at a time. The three-step fitting process of finding the right Edel putter begins with a basic but crucial truth: golfers see differently. Each golfer relies on their eyes to set up a putt, and most golfers – even the best players in the world – have imperfect visual aim.
Step #1: Assess the golfer’s aim. The golfer aims at a small laser projector that looks similar to an actual golf hole. When the ball is removed, the laser beam reflects off a mirrored putter face, then the reflected beam projects onto a black screen positioned vertically behind the projector, showing the difference between the golfer’s aim and the actual target.
Step#2: Find the right fit. The fitter has at their side a unique system of up to 270 million component combinations made up of various putter heads, hosels, offsets, lie angles to find the combination that corrects for the golfer’s natural aim.
Step#3: Make the putter. Edel inputs the specification into a computer to mill a custom putter that’s a perfect fit for the golfer. Edel craftsmen use a combination of old-fashioned craftsmanship and modern technology to create a putter that feels right, looks great, and is customized with the golfer’s name or other information.
In the product matrix today, Edel Golf offers three unique series that are built to a golfer’ specific need: Basic, Variable Weight and Variable Loft. All Edel Golf putters are precisely milled from a block of 303 Stainless Steel, are available in six head shapes (Columbia, Willamette, McKenzie, Rogue, Umpqua, Deschutes), and hand-crafted using a CNC (Computer Numerically Controlled) vertical milling press.
The Basic Series putter design by Edel Golf is machined to different thickness to accommodate for different head weights determined by the fitting process. The hosel is either turned or machined in specific length, weights, and offsets to accommodate the variables within the fitting system, and the “S” hosels are turned, flatted on each side, bent to offset, and then bent to correct lie angle using custom made bending fixtures. Each putter is stamped with alignment lines and/or dots as preferred by the golfer. The Basic Series putters are available in lofts ranging from 0 to 6 degrees, weights ranging from 328 to 370 grams, lie angles from 65 to 80 degrees. True Temper Dynamic Gold putter shaft and Edel-branded grip by Tacki-Mac is standard.
The Variable Weight Series putter design by Edel Golf enables golfers to make a simple modification of the putter’s mechanical properties, adapting the tool instead of tinkering with familiar feel and natural compensation. The Variable Weight technology offers golfers a sense of normalcy regardless of the green’s texture. For example, if a player’s skill set is accustomed to a green that rolls 9.0 on the stimpmeter, it is difficult to adjust to faster or slower greens. When you go to a green that rolls a 7 or a 12, that same putting motion does not match the new green conditions. The Variable Weight putters are available in static lofts ranging from 0 to 6 degrees, 6 dynamic weights (2 - 7 grams; 2 - 14 grams; 2 - 21 grams) that can be interchanged ranging from 314 to 384 grams and static lie angles from 65 to 80 degrees. True Temper Dynamic Gold putter shaft and Edel-branded grip by Tacki-Mac is standard.
The Variable Loft Series by Edel Golf is the most significant breakthrough in putter technology since the heel-toe weighted putter was first designed. The Variable Loft (Vari-loft) technology gives golfers the ability to alter the loft of their putter by interchanging the entire face instead of adapting their stroke. Race-car drivers change their car set-up and tires for different track conditions, so why do golfers not change their putter for different green conditions? It’s a very simple process of changing the loft plate and/or the weight ports to optimize the putter for the green conditions. One putter – 42 variables. The Variable Loft putters are available in dynamic lofts ranging from 1 to 6 degrees (two face plates come standard), static weight ranging from 314 to 384 grams and dynamic lie angles from 65 to 80 degrees. True Temper Dynamic Gold putter shaft and Edel-branded grip by Tacki-Mac is standard. (Editor’s note: the Vari-loft has both variable weight and variable loft characteristics in one putter. Comes with 8 weight – 4 tungsten and 4 brass – and three different face plates in 1 degree increments).
