Post What I Use
These are the indispensable things I take everywhere with me, especially if you are using the AimPoint Green-Reading method:

    1. Breakmaster
An essential tool for knowing both direction and amount of slope around your pin position. If using an AimChart, you will have to convert degrees of angle to percent slope. This spreadsheet will show you how, just print it small and tape it to the back of your Breakmaster. If you like math, percent of slope=tangent(angle).

Use the discount code "AIMPOINT" when ordering and receive and $20 discount: ORDER HERE

    2. Digital Level Only available in Home Depot stores (not online), this 9" digital level will show you percent slope and will fit in your golf bag. If you can't find one, let me know and I'll send you one.

    3. Spot Liner The only ball stencil that will appear like a straight line when placed low in front of your putter head. Use the long center line and the low short line. Great for alignment, it's one of Craig Farnsworth's favorites. Available online at a variety of stores or from me.

    4. Orr's Phantom Cup Great for practice rounds to simulate pin positions or for the putting green. Will not blow away and is virtually indestructable. Contact David Orr at http://www.orrgolf.com.

Why carry both a breakmaster and a digital level? Is the level actoss its entire 9 inches as is it only good for a planar surface?

The benefit of the level is that it will give a better reading over a 9" distance and that it gives slope in percent, the drawback is that it won't find downhill for you--you have to turn it until the slope maxes out in one particular direction. On flatter greens I tend to use the Breakmaster. I go back and forth with which one I use though.

Either from me of from a Certified Instructor, but make sure you get some training on how to use it. There are times to use it and times not to use it, so you have to know the difference. You also need to be familiar with Zero Lines and how they curve with the contours of the green.

Thanks. Had a great lesson from John L. Dal Corobbo in Indy. Great info. Now practice, practice, practice.

can you please elaborate on the difference between drawing a line on the ball using what i have (Line-Em-Up Pro) and the one that you have mentioned?

thanks

The only difference is that the Spot Liner has a curved cross-line that looks straight when lined up in front of your club face, which I like. However, not everyone aims or putts better with lines on their ball, so it really is personal preference which one you should use, if any at all.

I cant vouch for its accuracy because I haven't tested it enough, but you have to be sure to calibrate it on a perfectly flat surface, which is hard to come by. I'll do some testing and let you know what happens.
